{"id":504,"date":"2010-01-29T10:19:09","date_gmt":"2010-01-29T09:19:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.feedingedge.co.uk\/blog\/?p=504"},"modified":"2010-01-29T10:19:09","modified_gmt":"2010-01-29T09:19:09","slug":"sports-communities-in-second-life-a-new-satellite-dish","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.feedingedge.co.uk\/blog\/2010\/01\/29\/sports-communities-in-second-life-a-new-satellite-dish\/","title":{"rendered":"Sports communities in Second Life &#8211; A new satellite dish?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"twitter-share\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?via=epredator\" class=\"twitter-share-button\">Tweet<\/a><\/div>\n<p>With all my comments on needing to engage with virtual worlds and the olympics and the work I have done up to now with online sports representations is it really great to find an exemplar of a community driven collect of sports enthusiasts.<br \/>\nOne great example is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.globalonlinehockeyassociation.com\/\">Global Online Hockey Association<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/epredator\/4311357039\/\" title=\"Hockey SL Style by epredator, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4048\/4311357039_0e93b74a86.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"276\" alt=\"Hockey SL Style\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nIn particular it is worth taking a look a <a href=\"http:\/\/treet.tv\/shows\/hockey\/episodes\/ep066\">Treet.Tv coverage of a live event held there on Jan 10th<\/a><br \/>\nNow there is a lot of passion and effort, plus community participation that goes into this, but when you think of the global budgets of the advertiser and sponsors of world sporting events this really is not very expensive! The same applied to Wimbledon in SL, which in reality I paid for the land and a few of us volunteered our time to build.<br \/>\nIt is the fact that people with an interest and a passion can get an awful lot done themselves. However think about how all this could be made even better with just a little attention from an interested party.<br \/>\nFor sports social media and virtual worlds need to enagage, for virtual worlds what could be more mainstream an example than sports?
